The kilns of Dehua, in Fujan, have been active since the Song era, although little is known of their production from this period. It was only in the 16th century, perhaps due to the decline of Jingdezhen, that the district became known for their white porcelain highly appreciated in Europe and defined in French as 'blanc de Chine', which will see its golden age in the Kangxi period.
