Spade coin An Yang from the "Warring States" period (475-221 BC), in bronze. It is during this period that, as far as China is concerned, we witness the entry into the field of forms more responsive to the criteria of a true monetary system. This spade-shaped coin (Bu bi), according to the shape of the handle, shoulders, fork and feet, was divided into various subgroups, bearing lines and inscriptions.
