Vertical Scroll, Painter Huang Quan (900-965).
In the central panel of the work two geese are represented on the bank of a pond. Four inscriptions with seals are applied to the right, left and upper sides of the box. The central one could be authentic to the Emperor, while the other three are later (16th century), the work of collectors.
Prof. Lo Ch'ing commented in May 2004: 'Excellent painting, one of the most important pieces in the Museum; I am particularly struck by the inscription at the top center, with beautiful calligraphy. Perhaps a painting executed in the period just after the 10th century., but the inscription is authentic and very beautiful'.
