Portrait of Zhong Kui from the 'Songshan' series, it comes from the Shaolin Monastery.
He wears a scholar's hat, a book in his right hand and the 'qin' (Chinese zither) under the armpit of his left arm.
The stele was carved in the year 1624, and is kept in the Shaolin temple, Dengfeng county (Henan). Our cast probably dates from the year 1925. The rubbing was originally very well done, from a good stele. It is unfortunately ruined at the bottom.
