01 May 2025

An intimate journey of introspection is the new temporary exhibit from May 8th to May 22nd. The inauguration will be held on Thursday 8 May at 18:30

The Museum of Chinese Art and Ethnography of Parma is planning a new exhibition entitled “Echos of The Quiet Heart” from May 8th to May 22nd 2025, sponsored by AMEI (Associazione Musei Ecclesiastici Italiani). The temporary exhibition of the Chinese artist Kelly Zhang, curated by Peter H., offers an intimate journey of introspection, art as a form of expression to investigate oneself and the ancestral dilemma between being or appearing.

A world that is outlined by unnatural elements, with invisible boundaries that limit the body, but not the mind, free to float and be shaped by new experiences.

All 17 works exhibited in this exhibition are oval-shaped paintings, colorful paradises, foggy environments and self-portraits that reveal the artist's inner struggle fascinated by a dualism, perhaps infinite, that intertwines thoughts and experiences.

A journey to be discovered similarly to a book to be read, which animates its content in a succession of chapters, thus offering the artist the vital need to express her emotions in a creative process made of comparisons and new visions.

Plants and animals that find their sense of living or surviving in acting at the antipodes; animals apparently confined but able to radiate a calm and peaceful relief. On the contrary, the plants, now tired and without a certain shape, are burdened by an unexpressed weight.

In a strong expression of herself, the artist continues her story in a new chapter that examines the elusive theme of immobility, which fascinates her mind. A mind that fights to preserve the inexhaustible movement that is its own and natural, thus painting only what it believes, excluding what others believe.

Then moving into a nebulous world, where mirrors become a guide to a backward path, which leads to what had been lost or hidden by an enveloping fog, the original question remains: are we the expression of what we once dreamed of being or the outcome of what shaped our dream? A question that does not liberate, but that traps us further within ourselves.

Invisible chains that make you feel the distant freedom in a prison that is not real or permanent, but only another way of reflecting, thinking and defining oneself, in which the silent heart continues to echo and make the ancestral question resonate within itself: am I the one who shapes the world or is the world shaping me?

These artworks are not declarations. They are echoes, fleeting, imperfect and stubborn traces of a quiet heart that tries to stay alive.

The inauguration in the presence of the artist will be held on Thursday, May 8th at 6:30 pm, in the exhibition hall of the museum, a unique opportunity to grasp the essence of the exhibition directly from the voice of Kelly Zhang. A moment of conviviality will follow.
