Calendar 2017 Exhibit: “Incontri”

09 December 2016

12 artistic paintings of local artists

The 2017 Calendar entitled “Incontri”, Graphital editions, with works of 12 local artists, took place on Friday, December 9th, at our Museum of Chinese Art and Ethnography, with a fine participation of artists and friends.

Marzio dall'Acqua, art historian, presented the project, followed by a brief visit at the museum.

The cover of the 2017 Calendar “Incontri” is dedicated to a gorgeous object displayed in our museum, entitled “The 18 Luohan crossing the sea.”

The Luohans were regarded as the enlightened disciples of the historical Buddha, who were given the task of preserving the Buddhist Law after the disappearance of the Master and until the coming of the future Maitreya Buddha.

cnd0036p2cThe theme depicted in the object is that of 18 luohans who cross the sea in a fanciful boat. They look like Buddhist monks, shaved heads and monastic robes. The group is surrounded by numerous symbols, some related to longevity, such as the crane and the pine. The shape of the boat is reminiscent of the dragon, a characteristic mount of the Taoist immortals.

You smiled and talked to me of nothing
and I felt that for this
I had been waiting long.

Rabindranath Tagore
