Journey of awakening among the fairy tales of the 4 continents. Friday March 10th and saturday March 11th the museum presents a theatrical story that takes inspiration from the great traditional non-European fairy tales collected through the years by the Xaverian missionaries
On Friday 10 March the show “Where storms are born. Journey of awakening among the fairy tales of the 4 continents" will be held at the Museum of Chinese Art and Ethnography, Parma.
The theatrical story takes inspiration from the great traditional non-European fairy tales, heritage of the Chinese Museum which recently published the volume "Asia" containing the most beautiful fairy tales of this continent, acting as a true enchanted journey among the fairy tales of the four continents.
The Chinese Museum has entrusted to Anellodebole theater company, led by Vincenzo Picone, the artistic responsibility of interpreting the fascinating cosmogonic narratives of Asia, South America, Africa and Oceania in a restitutive and performative key.
From the great themes of subjectivity in the reading of fairy tales and the influence of story-telling in the search for Truth, the Anelloweak company together with five young African actresses immersed themselves in the evocative spaces of the Chinese Museum to build the show "Where storms are born" . Anellodebole has thus imagined an intimate journey for a few spectators, where the words of fairy tales are embodied by five very young girls of sub-Saharan origin; they will be the ones to guide the spectators - and a sleeping protagonist - in a parable that tells of a possible awakening, provided that we go back to listening to the intimate voice of each of us, in the faith that even storms can have a nature other than what our rational mind is accustomed to believe..
In this journey, the ancient oral tradition of fairy tales becomes the pulsating archetype to be crossed and handed down, before the iron trees deforesting our soul.” Chiara Allegri, director of the Museum, says “This literary, anthropological and theatrical journey is one of the most profound curatorial experiences that the Museum has undertaken. The analysis of centenary tales originating from millennial myths, passed orally through generations of distant peoples, transcribed in Italian by the Xaverian Missionaries during their missions which began at the end of the 19th century and finally returned in an unprecedented theatrical guise leads to an undoubted goal of going back to the Principle, to an authentic, generating and parenting essence”. The show "Where storms are born" is part of a large museum enhancement project undertaken by the Xaverians for the past 5 years, whose objective is to include all types of public within the Museum, by offering increasingly diverse socio-cultural programming"..
For Vincenzo Picone, director of the Anellodebole company, "this path was a further step for the company, to experiment with a theatrical form capable of directly involving the spectator, transforming him into a direct protagonist of the stage action. We have deliberately created a dramaturgical frame in which the only words are those of the story tales, we have crossed them by relating them to very ancient archetypes, such as the hermetic principles, relying on the symbolic power they carry. But to really enter that world, in the show, you will have to make the effort, move around, bring a pillow from home and, at a certain point, maybe even to read as to pass it on”.
Each spectator is required to bring a pillow.

The show will be staged on Friday 10 March at 5pm and repeated at 7.30pm. A further replica is scheduled for Saturday 11 March at 6pm.
