Guan Yu, one of the two generals (the other was called Zhang Fei) who remained faithful until the end to his emperor Liu Bei, following the usurpation of the Kingdom suffered by Cao Cao (Ts'ao ts'ao) in 155-220 AD. He later received the honorary title of Guan Gong. This general died in 219, fighting valiantly and was later proclaimed 'god of war' - with the name of Guan Di - and incorporated into the Taoist pantheon, for his courage and loyalty.
